These Tricks Will Get You Pumped to Exercise

These Tricks Will Get You Pumped to Exercise

I don't know about you, but with this whole quarantine business I've had a really hard time getting motivated to work out! Just because gyms are closed, it's no excuse to be lazy.

Let's talk about ways to kick procrastination to the curb. After all, we want to stay in shape and maintain optimal health. How can we vamp up our motivation? In today's blog post, I'm going to share a few tips and tricks to help you get moving!

Keep scrolling if you're looking for motivation to get off the couch and get onto your mat.

Workout Clothes in Plain Sight

Don't hide your cute workout clothing in a dark and faraway place (ahem, the closet.) When you're trying to get moving in the morning, the last thing you want to do is traipse all the way over to your closet and shuffle through your folded clothing to find something to wear.

Nope! Let's make it easier on ourselves, shall we? Put your workout attire in a place where you see it all of the time! You want your clothing and shoes to be the first thing you see in the morning.

Pick out your outfit ahead of time. All you have to do is put your clothes on and get moving! Bonus tip: make sure your clothes are cute, so you're excited to wear them!

Accountability Buddy

Just because you can't hang out with friends right now, doesn't mean that it's impossible to find an accountability buddy!

There's so much technology to keep us connected. Between Zoom, Houseparty, FaceTime, and Skype, there's definitely a way to find a friend or two to workout with you. Or, if you go on a run with someone, stay six feet apart!

Make an exercise schedule that works for both of you and pick a time each week to discuss your progress. When you're held accountable for your actions, it's more difficult to make excuses and procrastinate.

You could ask a friend, a family member, or post online that you’re looking for an accountability buddy. Don't forget, you both have to hold each other accountable.

Reward Yourself

You need to wire your brain to associate exercise with reward. When you're feeling like you want to procrastinate, it may help to remember this reward. The reward has to be something that genuinely excites you and brings you pleasure.

You could eat something (make sure it's healthy!) like a fruit smoothie, handful of nuts, or a protein bar. Or, it could be an activity like a relaxing bubble bath. You could treat yourself to watching an episode of a TV show following your workout.

When you pair your workouts with rewards, you'll be more motivated to continue exercising.

Have Fun

When you truly enjoy exercising, you'll be way more likely to sustain the practice. There are so many ways to break a sweat! If you hate your workout, you're doing something wrong.

I know it's tough to go for a swim, hula hoop, bike ride, or play tennis during these circumstances, so you're going to have to get creative. If you are able to go outside, then by all means, have at it! Still, if you're confined to your home, you'll have to find another way.

You can be bummed about it, or look at it like a fun challenge. How can I find an indoor workout that I enjoy? The internet is a great place to start. You're bound to find a workout that makes you smile. Keep hunting. I promise you'll find something!

Thank you for reading my blog post about ways to workout. It can be incredibly difficult to motivate yourself to exercise. Sometimes I just feel emotional about the state of the world. Other days I miss my fitness community.

It's okay to feel these emotions. If you need to go easy on yourself and start slow, begin with gentle stretches until you feel more comfortable with a more intensive exercise regimen.

Try channeling all of your pent up feelings into your workout. Breaking a sweat can be a healthy emotional outlet.

I hope these tips help get you excited to workout!
